What is Energy Retrofitting?

Energy retrofitting involves enhancing the energy performance of existing residential and commercial buildings. These projects aim to improve energy efficiency or reduce energy consumption in current properties. Retrofits are particularly beneficial for older buildings, leading to lower energy bills and making properties more attractive to tenants. At GBW Retrofit Services, our team of experienced retrofit specialists provides comprehensive retrofit services.

Retrofit Assessors

The PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessment, conducted by a certified Retrofit Assessor, is essential before any retrofit installation. The project scope varies based on improvement measures, risk level, and building type.

The assessment includes three reports, providing a comprehensive view of the property, its usage, and potential. First, simulation models estimate the property’s energy usage, producing a detailed energy report, especially for older properties needing complex improvements.

The assessor also conducts a condition survey to identify defects impacting future energy efficiency improvements, which should be addressed before further installations. The final part is the Occupancy Assessment, examining past energy bills and patterns of water consumption and heating.

Upon completion, you receive a report comprising the energy report, condition survey, and occupancy assessment. This report offers the information needed to make informed decisions about enhancing your property’s energy efficiency and gives the Retrofit Coordinator a clear picture of the next steps.

Retrofit Coordinators

Compliance with PAS 2035 requires that every domestic retrofit project be managed by a Retrofit Coordinator. These coordinators oversee the assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of energy efficiency measures in domestic properties, ensuring adherence to PAS 2035 standards. Our Retrofit Coordinators manage projects from inception to implementation, liaising with homeowners or tenants, Retrofit Assessors, Retrofit Designers, and Retrofit Installers to ensure the effective completion of energy efficiency installations.

As part of PAS 2035, our Retrofit Coordinators will:
  • 1

Conduct risk assessments for each property or property type within the project scope.

  • 2

Develop a retrofit project plan and a mid-term improvement plan for each property, to be implemented over 30 years.

  • 3

Document project progress and compile information provided by building owners and the retrofit specialists involved.

Retrofit Designers

Retrofit Designers improve the performance of energy efficiency measures (EEMs) by considering project specifications and analysing impacts. Their role tailors EEMs to each building’s unique needs.

Using advanced techniques like 3D modelling and scans, Retrofit Designers create precise solutions. They work closely with the Retrofit Coordinator to integrate these designs into the retrofit plan, ensuring a cohesive approach to energy efficiency.

Their expertise is valuable for projects involving older properties, where building complexity and uniqueness require careful attention. By addressing specific conditions and challenges, Retrofit Designers develop strategies that significantly improve energy performance and sustainability.

Retrofit Designers must stay updated with the latest regulations and standards. Effective communication with architects, engineers, and contractors ensures that all aspects of the retrofit project are aligned and executed smoothly. This helps achieve energy efficiency, long-term durability, and comfort for occupants.
